My challenge this year is based on the Law and Promise – Helping Other People. The idea is to do something for the community in which you do your Scouting. It could be planting some flowers, visiting old people’s homes, looking after gardens, fundraising for a local cause. I am sure you will have lots of other ideas. You might like to think about Shelterbox which provides much needed equipment for disaster areas such as Haiti.
As another example, Radio Suffolk is running its “Don’t be a Tosser” campaign and if you give Mark Murphy enough notice he will, if he can, come and help you with your litter pick. Which brings me to the second part of the challenge and that is to get your event publicised. Contact Brian Roe our Media Manger at
Everyone taking part in the Challenge will receive a special woggle.
Let’s make Scouting high profile in Suffolk!

ExpiredNew County Commissioner
ExpiredAt the County AGM on the 24th September, Jenny Mullan was selected as the new County Commissioner for Suffolk. Congratulations to Jenny!
We wave goodbye to John Mabb, who has done a brilliant 10 year post. We aren't going to see the back of John, he is still keen to be involved in scouting in Suffolk and I'm sure we will be pleased to have him! See the new "County News" for more info in his "John's Jottings".
County Directory - WEB Style:
Feedback we have had from users of the site is that you want the County Directory to be available online. There have been a few issues with implementing this.
Firstly the security of the data; this is your personal information and we can't just give it out to anyone. Currently anyone can register on the site, if they are a member of scouting in Suffolk or not.
Secondly is the actual system to hold the data - imagine having to type out 100's of peoples data onto a webpage! No easy task!
I have been working on designing and building a suitable system to hold all of the County Data so that is can be accessed securely online, searched and used as necessary. This system is almost complete and we hope for it to be launched soon.
To have access to the new County Directory system you will use your current username and password for the website, however you will only be allowed access if you have entered your Gilwell Membership Number when you signed up and it has been confirmed.
Watch this space! We will let you know more info soon!

ExpiredWelcome to the Suffolk Scouts Website!
The on-line home of Scouting in Suffolk. We are constantly updating the site with lots of useful information, so make sure you check back every once in a while to see what's changed.
More content and features are available to members that have registered (County News, resources etc), and you get even more for your money ( :-) ) if you enter your membership number as it gives you access to Suffolk Leaders only info!
Make sure you check our Forum once you have signed in. You can leave notes and ideas for leaders all over Suffolk...or even the world!
If you have anything you wish to add to this site, maybe an event to go in the calendar or some information on how to have a less stressful cub meeting(!?) then please e-mail it to
