The search continues for the new

Nominations close at midnight 4th November 2020.

As you know Ollie Smith will be standing down as County Youth Commissioner, a role he has held for the past 4.5 years to take on the role of Deputy UK Youth Commissioner for programme. We send him all best wishes for the future.

Although his national role will be his primary role, it is planned that he will continue to head up the County Programme and Youth Shaped workstream.

The search for his successor continues, and names of suitable candidates are being sought for consideration by the County Commissioner to succeed Ollie and to continue to build on the sterling work he has put into the role and the initiatives which he has instigated across the county during his time in post.

How can you help?

We all know that there are some amazing young people out there with talents and skills that would make them ideal candidates for this role; although they may not realise it themselves! (See enclosed SCYC Vacancy pack for details of role).

It is important that nobody gets overlooked to have the opportunity to be considered for this key role in the county and that everyone gets the chance to nominate those they feel could undertake this role and equally to be able to nominate themselves.

We want you to contribute to this search so please have a think about whom you feel should be considered for this important and rewarding role by submitting a nomination, or multiple nominations (including yourself) for consideration.

Please don’t be put off from nominating someone because you believe or think they would not accept the role; if you think they are capable then please put their name(s) forward.

Please do not discuss any of your nominations with the nominees or anyone else.

Who can I nominate?

Anyone between the ages of 18-24 years old.

Self-nominations are actively encouraged. Let’s be honest, if you believe you can bring the right skills and expertise to the role and you are enthusiastic and motivated then why not nominate yourself? The nominee does not have to be a current member of Scouting.

What’s in it for them?

It’s a challenging role, but the rewards are huge, improving the outcomes of local young people working with the county team to ensuring young people have a say in and are represented across all spectrums of scouting in Suffolk. As well as being a member of the County Executive and therefore a trustee of Suffolk Scouts they will also be a member of the National Council thereby having a vote on decisions which influence the direction of the entire movement.

How do I nominate?

That’s the easy bit. To nominate others or yourself please email their/your details with a brief note (using attached nomination form if you wish) outlining why you think they or you would be suitable for the role to:

Any nomination submissions received after this time regrettably cannot be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE: Those who have nominated previously do not need to re-submit.
