It has been great to be able to continue to meet Scouts, Explorers and Leaders over the last few months with visits to Troops in Ipswich and supporting a small group of Explorers to organise a two day Passport Expedition. Thank you to the Scout Leaders from Wolsey for welcoming me to their District Meeting in March and especially to Deben District for inviting me to attend your St Georges Day Parade.

I was also privileged to visit Rendlesham Scouts at Hallowtree to present their first Gold Chief Scouts Award (with more scouts almost there).

Thank you to all those who have welcomed me to meetings over the last couple of months. Apologies to those I haven’t mentioned.

I would like to start by recognising and congratulating Victoria Campbell, an Explorer with Discovery Unit in Bury St Edmunds. Victoria and a friend witnessed a vehicle come off the road and strike a wall in Ixworth just before Christmas. It transpired that the driver had an epileptic seizure behind the wheel and Victoria and her friend, calmly managed the scene, called the emergency services and summoned assistance until the paramedics turned up. The grateful driver later appealed in the Bury Free Press to locate the “Good Samaritans” and was reunited with his rescuers to say thank you. Well done, a splendid effort in the true spirit of Scouting.

Rama’s Roundup – (all suggestions gratefully received for an alternative title!)

Firstly may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Last term I managed to get out to start visiting several troops, units and districts and would like to thank you all for your hospitality. It some respects it was a term of campfires with a fantastic bonfire and fireworks display at Bungay (good luck in devising the next method of lighting the bonfire on a raft on the middle of the river) and Bury District’s Carols around the Campfire at RAF Honington.
