Gone Home - Roger Dann
ExpiredUpdated with Funeral arrangements/Catering Request 06/01/2023). News received that Roger passed away whilst in hospital on 1st Jan. Our condolences to Marian and the family. Roger started his scouting in Colchester in 1980 but moved to Brantham on the executive committee and later as Chairman. He took on leadership roles within the group and was later ADC Scouts in Ipswich South, now Wolsey.
Later roles saw him in the Explorer section with the Cattawade unit and also as a County Trainer. He was also active in the County Mountain Activities Team (CMAT) helping with many expeditions with strong links to DofE awards. He was awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn in May-2021 for his Service to Scouting.
The family have arranged arranged a memorial service for Roger for all who knew him which will take place at St Michael's Church, Church Lane, Brantham, Manningtree, CO11 1PU on Tuesday 24th January 2023 at 11.30am. Marian has requested anyone wanting to wear Scout/Guide uniform or colourful clothing should do so; no flowers please, instead donations will be accepted for the 1st Brantham Scout and Guide Group - Project 2017 which is a dedicated building fund for the new headquarters. The wake will be at the Brantham Bull pub.

From the County Commissioner:
I have in the last couple of editions of the County Newsletter mentioned various County Appointments which we have needed to fill. I am very pleased to let you know that I have made a number of appointments very successfully, but we are still short in two specific areas: we need a Youth County Commissioner, and we also need an ACC (Transition); both of these roles are important so do please step forward if you are interested. I call upon our 18 – 25-year-olds in particular to respond – there must be someone out there who would wish to represent Scouting in Suffolk from the youth perspective!

County Office - Theft
ExpiredThe Suffolk Scouts County Office in Cauldwell Hall Road in Ipswich was broken into last week and a number of items removed. The outside door was forced open and also a locked steel cupboard.
Amonst the items stolen was a hallmarked Silver Acorn medal (with yellow ribbon), two computer monitors (Samsung 24" and HP 15"), a Union Flag (incl carry case & poles with a brass inscription plate on lower pole) and the Wolf Cub Commissioner's Scout Stave used for ceremonial purposes at camps and parades in the past (carved wolf's head on a 1.75m pole with multicoloured ribbons/tapes attached for specific events and brass plaques with names of holders).
If you have ANY information regarding these items, please contact the County Office on the following link - County Office
Thanks in advance for your help in hopefully recovering these scouting heirlooms which can be of little value to anyone outside the Scouting Movement.
