A third of the year gone already.   I am pleased to announce that Keith Gleen has accepted the role of Deputy County Commissioner (Development),  Brian Roe now becomes County Media Manager and Rob Gloess is now officially the County WebMaster.

At the end of March the District Commissioners and District Chairmen had an AwayDay with the County Team and me.  It was a very successful day and the District Plans were updated.  Also at the end of March I attended the 1st Carlton Colville Air Scouts’ Royal Air Force Inspection.  It was an excellent evening which resulted in them gaining their Recognition.  The Scouts were a credit to themselves and their Leaders.  I must admit I had not experienced so many young people standing still and silent for so long.  Congratulations!

In April I attended the Ipswich Gang Show and what a show it was!  Being a bit of a lovey myself I really appreciated the work that had gone into making the show such a success.  Don’t miss it next year!  Then came the Stowmarket District Dinner in their Centenary year.  Well done to Paul Hill and Ross Kelly for organising such a super evening.

If you attended the County Skills Day you will know what a great success it was.  Over two hundred and fifty Leaders attended.  Many thanks to Jan Webb and her team.

Last but not least I was fortunate enough to attend the St George’s Day Parade at Windsor Castle and was very proud to see the young people from Suffolk on parade.  Prince Charles carried out the review and spent over 40 minutes chatting to them all.

County Commissioner’s Community Challenge 2010 – 2011

My challenge this year is based on the Law and Promise – Helping Other People.  The idea is to do something for the community in which you do your Scouting.  It could be planting some flowers, visiting old people’s homes, looking after gardens, fundraising for a local cause.  I am sure you will have lots of other ideas.  You might like to think about Shelterbox which provides much needed equipment for disaster areas such as Haiti.

As another example, Radio Suffolk is running its “Don’t be a Tosser” campaign and if you give Mark Murphy enough notice he will, if he can, come and help you with your litter pick.  Which brings me to the second part of the challenge and that is to get your event publicised. Contact Brian Roe our Media Manger on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Everyone taking part in the Challenge will receive a special woggle.

Let’s make Scouting high profile in Suffolk!
