As the warmth of September fades into the more autumnal weather of October, Scouting in Suffolk continues to thrive. Leader training is increasing as Leaders return to sections. Plans for activities next year are developing well and there is much to look forward to.
YouShape Award Launch
The new badge, one basic design but with different colours for each section, has 4 parts with the outer ring elements for Lead, Plan and Represent activities added as they are completed. Progress is not transferable between sections as each has different requirements.

As we thank Mark this evening for his amazing efforts as your CC and welcome Keith Barber as Acting CC, now is the time for us to formally start the search process for the next County Commissioner of Suffolk Scouts.

Stand Up Paddleboarding - Safety
ExpiredSafety and Stand Up Paddleboard Leashes
As part of British Canoeing’s continual work to raise safety awareness for anyone paddling a Stand Up Paddleboard, British Canoeing Awarding Body, alongside the SUP Technical Group, have produced a short instructional video. The video includes the different leashes available, quick release systems, use of buoyancy aids and additional safety equipment for consideration.

Three years ago, we organised a totally terrific trip to Scotland and we’re planning to head back up north for more epic adventures in 2022 based at Rothiemurchus Lodge, Cairngorms from Friday 29th July 2022 to Sunday 7th August 2022
This event is open to Scouts (minimum age 11 years at 29/07/2022), Explorer Scouts,
Network, Leaders and other approved adults. The Rothiemurchus Lodge provides superb accommodation in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Visit Rothiemurchus Lodge and Home - Cairngorms National Park Authority to have a look around.
The activities will be tailored to the ability and experience of those attending and include: wild camping and mountain walking, rock climbing, canoeing, white water rafting and mountain biking. We will also catch, cook and eat Haggis and see cable-tossing and bag-piping at the Highland Games! Wearing tartan is optional.
Fellow Suffolk Scouters and Supporters,
As you know, Mark is stepping down as our County Commissioner at this week's County AGM, after an amazing 2+ years at the helm.
I am therefore delighted to announce that Keith Barber has very kindly agreed to take on the Acting/Interim CC role next week. I'll confirm when the Compass changes have been made, so if anyone has anything mega-urgent, please contact Mark until I advise you differently.
I am acutely aware that Keith already has some significant responsibilities within the county and beyond. He is currently DCC, and Acting DC in Wolsey district! In the circumstances, it is great that we have such a strong cadre of Deputy CCs, whom I know will support Keith during the CC Search/Appointment process. Equally, in Wolsey we have three excellent Deputy District Commissioners who already support Keith.
